Los antibi\u00f3ticos son capaces de matar microorganismos o inhibir su crecimiento. Por ello, en la medicina humana o veterinaria, los antibi\u00f3ticos se emplean como f\u00e1rmacos para el tratamiento de enfermedades bacterianas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hormonas y anab\u00f3licos<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Los residuos de las hormonas y los esteroides anab\u00f3licos en alimentos como la carne o la leche suponen un riesgo potencial de salud para los consumidores. Las hormonas act\u00faan como mensajeros bioqu\u00edmicos end\u00f3genos a trav\u00e9s del flujo sangu\u00edneo a los \u00f3rganos objetivo. Adem\u00e1s de las hormonas sexuales naturales, los esteroides y beta-agonistas sint\u00e9ticos se pueden utilizar en la cr\u00eda de ganado para mejorar el peso medio y la proporci\u00f3n carne\/grasa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Otros f\u00e1rmacos veterinarios<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Adem\u00e1s de los antibi\u00f3ticos y anab\u00f3licos, los animales se tratan ocasionalmente con otros f\u00e1rmacos veterinarios que tambi\u00e9n pueden dejar residuos en los alimentos. Una de las fuentes importantes de contaminaci\u00f3n es la transferencia desde el material de envasado. Un ejemplo de ello es el contaminante bisfenol A (BPA), una sustancia utilizada en la producci\u00f3n de pl\u00e1sticos de policarbonato. A trav\u00e9s de las botellas o envases de pl\u00e1stico, el BPA puede transferirse a los alimentos.
