La biodiversit\u00e0 degli oceani \u00e8 immensa e il numero totale delle specie ittiche \u00e8 sconosciuto. Le allergie al pesce variano notevolmente a seconda delle aree; gli abitanti delle regioni costiere, dove i prodotti ittici sono consumati pi\u00f9 di frequente, sono maggiormente colpiti rispetto a quelli delle regioni interne dello stesso paese.
