A competitive enzyme immunoassay for quantitative analysis of Virginiamycin in various matrices.
Virginiamycin is a streptogramin antibiotic complex consisting of virginiamycin M1 and S1. It is effective in the treatment of vancomycin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus. In veterinary medicine, virginiamycin also has been used to promote growth in livestock. In 1998, however, virginiamycin was banned from animal feed in accordance with Council Regulation (EC) no. 2821/98.
The Virginiamycin ELISA is a competitive enzyme immunoassay based on antibodies directed against virginiamycin.
