Intended use
The SureFood® ANIMAL QUANT Turkey real-time PCR detects the relative turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) DNA amount to the total animal (amnions) DNA content in meat samples. Therefore the kit contains two PCR systems, one for detection of a turkey specific gene (Turkey detection gene) and one for the detection of an animal gene (Reference gene).
General Information
The real-time PCR assay can be used with established real-time PCR instruments. The technical validation of instruments was performed on Agilent AriaDx, Agilent Mx3005P, Applied Biosystems 7500, Bio-Rad CFX96, Qiagen Rotor-Gene Q, R-Biopharm RIDA®CYCLER and Roche LightCycler® 480 II.

Sample preparation
For DNA-preparation of meat samples the use of SureFood® PREP Basic is recommended.
LOD (Detection Limit)
The turkey specific PCR has a limit of detection of < 5 DNA-copies.
The assay limit of detection depends on sample matrix, processing grade, DNA-preparation and DNA-content.
LOQ (Limit of quantification
The limit of quantitation depends on the concentration of the sample DNA used in the analysis. For example, if 50,000 target-sequence copies of the reference gene are present, the relative quantitation limit for turkey DNA is 0.1 %.
