A competitive enzyme immunoassay for screening and quantitative analysis of Lactoferrin in various matrices
The Lactoferrin ELISA is used for the quantification of this bioactive bovine milk protein (80 kDa) in milk and milk products. Lactoferrin plays a key role in the defense mechanisms of lactating animals’mammary glands. The milk lactoferrin concentration is a helpful indicator for the stage of lactation, for mastitis and forintramammary infection in dairy cows.In addition, lactoferrin is reported to be a natural antioxidant with numerous other functions, including anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activities.
