R-Biopharm at WMF meets IUPAC 2016

In two months we will be on our way: On June 6, “WMF meets IUPAC” opens its doors in Winnipeg. It’s the world’s biggest conference on mycotoxins and we’re still busy planning. Today, we want to give you an impression of what to expect at the event.

Winnipeg, the capital of the province of Manitoba, is the center of grain production in Canada. The fertile and moist soils and the long warm summer days provide ideal conditions for farming. In fact, Manitoba is one of the most productive places in the world to grow wheat. About 15 percent of Canada’s total wheat production is cultivated here. Manitoba wheat is recognized worldwide and is exported to more than 70 countries. Thanks to the region’s high yields, Canada ranks amongst the world’s top 5 producers of wheat. Yet, the warm and moist climate, particularly during the flowering period, causes repeatedly the presence of the mycotoxin DON (Deoxynivalenol, also known as “Vomitoxin“) and other Fusarium toxins. Wheat is particularly vulnerable. A high percentage of the harvest is therefore often lost.

So, Winnipeg seems to be the ideal place for a conference on mycotoxins. It’s not surprising that WMF and IUPAC have chosen this location for their conference in June. „WMF meets IUPAC“ is the joint event organized by the „World Mycotoxin Forum“ (WMF) and the International Symposium on Mycotoxins of the „International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry“ (IUPAC). This year, the motto of the conference is „Mycotoxins in a changing world“.

R-Biopharm AG is very excited to support the event as a „diamond sponsor“ along with R-Biopharm Inc., R-Biopharm Rhône Ltd., Trilogy Analytical Laboratory and Central Testing Laboratory. For this reason, we have prepared an interesting program comprising three presentations. On Monday, we will report on new trends in mycotoxin analysis. On Tuesday, the focus will be on our new smartphone app for mycotoxin analysis, and later, we will take a look at some less considered sources of mycotoxin hazards. Please mark the following dates:

  • Mycotoxin testing in a changing world: trends in mycotoxin analysis. Presentation by Carrie Maune (Trilogy Analytical Laboratory). Monday, June 6th 2016 at 17:00
  • Welcome Reception at Delta Winnipeg Hotel, featuring Canadian wines and whiskeys (sponsored by R-Biopharm). Monday, June 6th at 17:30
  • Mycotoxin analysis in your hand. Presentation by Dr. Michael Fischer (R-Biopharm AG). Tuesday, June 7th 2016 at 14:00
  • Expect the unexpected – common mycotoxins in uncommon places. Presentation by Carrie Maune (Trilogy Analytical Laboratory). Tuesday, June 7th 2016 at 15:05

With more than 100 speakers, the conference offers an interesting program of presentations, discussions, poster sessions, workshops and exhibitions relating mycotoxins. Alongside legal, economic and health aspects, the conference also focuses on new analytical techniques, sampling methods and preventive measures.
